Anna metro exodus11/7/2023 ![]() Having both the "two competent soldiers taking care of each other in dangerous situations" and "two human beings able to be emotionally open to each other" sides of their characters was a pleasant surprise, as you tend to only get one or the other in a lot of modern works of fiction. Despite the fact that you have to save her at a few points in the game, she also saves you at several points and it creates a dynamic that feels more like you're looking out for each other rather than it being one-sided. It does a wonderful job of investing you in wanting to find the drug to save her without making her a helpless damsel. While it's probably not perfect, the little moments the two of them share on the train, having to watch as her condition worsens, it all works very well to invest you in wanting to find a cure for her, though I feel like Exodus is the worst offender of the trio by not making Artyom fully voiced so they can actually have conversations. Her portrayal in Exodus does a fantastic job of making the player care about her though. Or at the very least they could have taken advantage of the fact that Artyom actually has a voice actor and extended the moment where she apologizes by having them talk for a while, maybe establish some degree of an existing relationship that's formed in the year between 2033 and Last Light so it doesn't feel like these two people are complete strangers. Even just one level after the church where the two of them are together and interact before she gets kidnapped by Lesnitsky would have done wonders for making it feel more realistic and would have given you that extra desire to kick his ass and rescue your friend. It wasn't that it couldn't work, especially given the near-death situation that they'd just been in and the fact that the two of them had every reason to believe they were about to die horribly and them having the potential to become a couple is only really established in the bad ending for Last Light when she cries while telling her son the story of Artyom, but even so it desperately needed more build-up to be believable as anything more than a moment of passion. I do agree with the romance scene, if it could be called that, in Last Light. You get a bit of her actual personality when you make it to the church at the end of the Swamps and she apologizes for treating you so badly before, and in her DLC mini-level which is great fun, which shows us that there's some substance to how she's portrayed in Exodus. given that his race nearly wiped out the population of Exhibition station in their attempts to communicate, and that only Artyom and Khan are the ones who know the truth, her position is pretty justified. As for the baby Dark One, she does push you to kill him but. ![]() She sees him as having been given something that she and all her comrades in arms had to earn. Artytom also got to skip most of the training and other initiation things that Spartans usually have to go through, which, while not entirely undeserved given what he did in the first game of course, has to be looked at from her perspective. ![]() She looked up to Hunter like an uncle, and somewhat blames Artyom for his death.
